David Cameron: 'Don’t complain about welfare cuts, go and find work' - Telegraph
What an absolute idiot David Cameron is. If there are far more unemployed people (2.68m) than jobs for them to fit into (under 500k), then even if everyone was healthy, had no dependents, went all-out looking for jobs and could somehow move anywhere in the country for them, there’d *still* be a majority of them that would remain unemployed. Not everyone has the connections to hook up a cushy job for them, after they’ve done a PPE “degree” at Oxford of course.
While the TV researchers will go out of their way to find someone who claims a large amount of benefits and *appears* not to need (or “deserve”) them in order to whip up public anger, for the most part anyone claiming up to the cap may have many aspects where help is required - children+medical inability to work, for example. In any society, there will be a small number of people who really are just lazy, but that’s no reason to hammer the majority of people who are just in difficult circumstances. I suspect he knows this of course, but just doesn’t care.
A country where many people are out of work but yet has the government handing out free labour - sorry, ‘work experience placements’ - to the likes of Tesco and Sainsbury’s, who then have no incentive to actually hire people to do those jobs, and where “zero hour” contracts are legal, and where large corporations can avoid paying the tax that funds the society that gives them protection, educates their workers and allows them to operate, is a very damaged one indeed. Every bit as “broken” at the government level as any number of Third World countries that are criticised at every turn for “bad governance.” I think I want to be sick.
